It would sure be nice to know exactly where you were parked at. The Time of day would also be nice as well. Being that the area you generally describe is a highly trafficked area for triathletes, but usually only during particular times of the day and days of the week.
I am an avid TRI athlete. I too have an expensive bike which I have modified to the hilt and I hate to ever see it get stolen as well. I am always on the look out for suspicious activity when i can.

I was parked in the middle of the long beach parking lot at Virginia Key. Pretty much directly across the highway from the Maritime and Science Technology Academy. I left for my run at 8am and came back just before 9am Monday. There were a ton of triathletes around, but not many other cars in the parking lot.
